Day 3 of Digital Marketing for Selby. I almost took a screenshot of the old twitter page, but thought better of it because it really just did not represent them well. The page was, simply put, stale. And like I’ve said before, Selby is many things but STALE ain’t one of them!!! This is a baby band on the verge of breaking big time, with a hypnotizing stage presence and their Twitter page needed to not only convey energy and rock royalty but also pimp their upcoming appearances. And this is where band and music marketing is different from mainstream corporate and brand marketing. We need to keep the Twitter background fresh and updated with the upcoming events. Their content needs to be edgy, relevant and personal. We’ve come up with a Twitter background that represents their musical identity and now they are working on providing the “right” kind of content. A little coaching and a lot of dedication and they will have a Twitter page that crushes it.

Twitter Strategies for Muscians
Profile Best Practices for Twitter
Personal Accounts
- Select a user name that identifies you as a person not a brand. Ideally, you want to select your actual name. This helps you create a personal brand for yourself.
- Use an actual picture of yourself for your avatar. People connect best with other people not with your dog, not with Bart Simpson and not with your company logo and they are ore inclined to connect with the individual artists than their band as a whole.
- Fully fill out your profile. Be sure to include your location so geo-location and mapping applications for Twitter can list you and be sure to add a bio line (Hubspot indicates that Twitter profiles with a bio line are 8 times more likely to be followed than those without)
- Can Having a Twitter Bio Get You 8 Times as Many Followers?
- Bio Characteristics of Twitter Power Users
- Customize your profile by adding a custom background that identifies you. If you are not graphically inclined, try creating one on Twitbacks.com, MyTweetSpace.com, and FreeTwitterDesigner.com. These services allow you to create numerous templates that you can download for free. If you are a band or an artists that wants a professional custom background like Selby, please contact Sacrilicious Marketing. We have the experience and skill to create brand identities for Twitter, MySpace and Facebook that represent your music and personal brand while engaging your fan base.
- This account is where you share information you find across the net, reply to people, make personal insights and stream events in your life. You want to take special care to tweet more regularly around recording sessions, photo shoots, tours, live events and album or single releases. Also, be sure to pimp yourself when you hit the charts.
Hubspot recommends the optimal number of tweets a user should tweet per day is 23 – during the peak hours of the customers you are targeting
Label, Band and Album Account Best Practices
- Select a user name that identifies your brand or band, label or album. Ideally, you want to select the name of your band, label or album. While album Twitter accounts will not be used much, you should set them up to dominate your brand and prevent others from taking them.
Use your logo, album artwork or picture of the band as your avatar - Fully fill out your profile. Be sure to include your location so geo-location and mapping applications for Twitter can list you and be sure to add a bio line about your label, band, album (Hubspot indicates that Twitter profiles with a bio line are 8 times more likely to be followed than those without)
- Customize your profile by adding a custom background that identifies you. If you are not graphically inclined, try creating one on Twitbacks.com, MyTweetSpace.com, and FreeTwitterDesigner.com. If you are a band or an artists that wants a professional custom background like Selby, please contact Sacrilicious Marketing. We have the experience and skill to create brand identities for Twitter, MySpace and Facebook that represent your music and personal brand while engaging your fan base.
- Much of what happens on this account can be automated and scheduled through services like www.tweetlater.com. I recommend you set up a Google news feed and feed it directly to twitter that focuses on the keywords for your band, music, singles, artist names, and albums. This keeps the account fresh and useful yet doesn’t take up a ton of our valuable time.
- Remember these accounts are mostly used for the purpose of brand reputation and ensuring that nefarious users do not usurp valuable Twitter names that could be used to maliciously damage your reputation or mislead fans into believing these accounts cold be official band or artist pages.
