You are probably asking what is a QR Code if you are not already in the know and have one on your business card! The basic gist is it is a primted code that when scanned by your phone bridges you into a digital experience in the form of data like a business card, a websites, a video and even music.
So Here’s What a QR Code Is in Techno Speak:
A QR Code is a matrix barcode (or two-dimensional code), readable by QR scanners, mobile phones with a camera, and smartphones. The code consists of black modules arranged in a square pattern on white background. The information encoded can be text, URL or other data. Common in Japan, where it was created by Toyota subsidiary Denso-Wave in 1994, the QR code is one of the most popular types of two-dimensional barcodes. QR is the abbreviation for Quick Response, as the creator intended the code to allow its contents to be decoded at high speed.
You have probably seen them on business cards. You can scan the code with your phone and the code transmits data typically in textual or graphical format to your phone usually in the form of a business card or link to a website.
How Big Are QR Codes?
QR codes have become so big that to celebrate Internet Week 2010, the City of New York outfitted Times Square with giant QR codes earlier today. It’s called “The City at Your Fingerprints” and 11 New York agencies participated in the interactive billboard initiative. Even forward thinking brands have gotten into the QR craze. As always Calvin Klein pushed boundaries with their racy ads by placing it behind a QR code billboard.
